Mayor Pecak presented his annual State of the Village Address on January 20, 2020. His presentation highlighted several new business openings including cafes, a bakery, and leading technology and software firms Rockwell, Anju and the AST Corporation.
He shared that the Village’s building permit activity remains strong, and that the Village has experienced a $7.15 million, or 3.17% increase in the EAV over last year. Larger projects that have contributed to this, or will contribute in the future, include the Marq on Main development, renovation of the Volvo of Lisle showroom and services facility, several townhome developments and a $14 million rebrand of the Hilton Hotel as the DoubleTree by Hilton.
The Mayor also highlighted that the Village has held its property tax levy flat for the last three years and has decreased its property tax rate over the same duration. He promoted advances in the Village’s economic development efforts as a means to diversify the Village’s revenue base. Mentioning partnerships including a new membership in the DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau and first steps taken towards forming a public-private economic development partnership. The goal of these pursuits are to encourage development and reinvestment in Lisle while encouraging tourism and patronage of Lisle businesses.
Additional community highlights included the welcoming of the DuPage Pistol Shrimp to the Village of Lisle/Benedictine University sports complex. This new Prospect League baseball team finished their inaugural season with a playoff run and finishing second in the West Division. The Village continues its efforts to provide flood relief, maintain a high level of service for its roads, and is undergoing a water system assessment and water rate study to best plan for the long-term maintenance of in a cost effective manner that minimizes the impact on water customers.
Mayor Pecak also announced that the 2019 Community Recognition Award recipients. This year’s recipients were Don Johnson and Horst Korallus. Don Johnson is an active member for the Lisle Heritage Society and authors articles for its newsletter. He has volunteered many hours to build the new exhibit at Lisle Station Park and researching Lisle history. He was nominated by Don Smith.
Horst Korallus is the owner of Volvo and Honda of Lisle. Horst, and his late brother Gunther, operated their business in Lisle for over 40 years, supporting the community with sales tax associated with vehicle sales. Recently, a large, expansive renovation of the Volvo dealership was undertaken demonstrating a continued commitment to the Lisle community.
Many worthy nominations were submitted, and the Village would like to thank all those that participated.
